This is our story.

At age 46, Kerri Kelley of Dover, NH, mother of four, wife, daughter, sister, friend, needs a life saving double lung transplant resulting from a relatively rare genetic condition known as Alpha 1 Antitrypsin Deficiency affecting only 1 in every 2500 people.

Although Kerri’s surgery is covered by insurance, Kerri and her husband Shawn have been struggling with the ongoing burden of out-of-pocket medical and prescription costs since Kerri’s condition was first diagnosed about six years ago.  Seven months ago Kerri was placed on Brigham & Women’s lung transplant list, but the program is small and they are averaging less than 30 transplants a year while there are 120-150 people on its wait list at any given time.

As Kerri’s condition becomes more critical and it appears a transplant through Boston may never come, we have searched out other programs.

Cleveland Clinic is doing many more transplants every year which offers Kerri a better chance that she will get her lungs. The major roadblock to being accepted into that program is that Kerri must show the financial means to pay out-of-pocket for pre- and post-surgery flights, lodging, medicine, etc. because those costs are not covered by insurance. When lungs become available Cleveland Clinic requires transplant patients to use their jet at a cost of $8000.  After surgery Kerri will be hospitalized for four to six weeks with four to five post surgical return visits over the next year.  Our fund raising goal of $60,000 is to cover all of those uninsured but necessary expected expenses over the next two years.

Kerri wants to be here, along with her husband Shawn, to watch her eight year old twins, Ashley and Nicole grow up, graduate from high school and get married.  And even though her other two children Jon & Katie are young adults, they all still need their mom.  With your help all of that is a possibility.

We are appealing to our family, friends and community.  Every dollar raised will help save Kerri's life.  We are planning a Bowl-A-Thon on January 19, 2014 to support our cause.  Please click on those tabs to learn more about that event or if you simply want to Make a Donation click on that tab.

Thank you for all the love, support and prayers you have sent our way!
